The ambiance is immersive with elaborate decorated. There's bar seating and also regular tables. We sat across from the bar and ordered the appetizer specials, truffle croquettes, char siu ribs, and calamari. We also had crispy fish as a main, which had a sour but good sauce.

Macao Trading Company is a Chinese-Portuguese fusion restaurant set in an old gambling parlor in SoHo. We came for a midweek dinner and enjoyed a family-style meal. We started off with some stellar cocktails, calamari, shrimp and scallion dumplings, and char siu bbq baby back ribs. All the starters were amazing but the ribs will have us going back just to have them again. For entrees we had the African chicken for two smothered in creamy peanut curry sauce and piri piri as well as the incredible lobster noodles topped with lobster tail. Both entrees were fantastic and justified the somewhat eye watering price tags. For dessert we had the malasadas, mini Portuguese donuts, with dulce de leche and yuzu anglaise and chocolate mousse tart special. Macao Trading Company is a great special occasion date venue or place to sit at the bar and enjoy some phenomenal cocktails

The food/drinks: Generally yum! I recommend any of the noodle dishes and the duck breast. The octopus was good but a very small serving. I thought the calamari was okay, could probably skip. The drinks were decent. Strong and a lot of stirred options. I like a more refreshing shaken drink and didn't find one that I really liked. The vibe: Lovely long table booths throughout the restaurant that are great for large groups. Didn't feel squished or anything. On a Friday night (around 8pm) I'd say the restaurant was around 60% full, and you'd probably be okay coming in without a reservation. The service: Really great! Server was attentive but not hovering, knew a lot about the menu, and overall had a lovely attitude. Food and drinks all came out fast. Would go again! A great date night and hangout spot.

Staff was a delight and they made my friends' and my last meal in New York a great experience! Love the atmosphere and decor of the restaurant also. The outside dining was also well decorated. Since we were visiting, we heard good things about this place. We had a party of 6 and made a reservation for 6 people in advance. I mistakenly reserved on the wrong day and called in to update it with no problems. We also were celebrating my bachelorette party and the drinks were definitely a hit for me. I didn't realize there's happy hour on a Sunday either but that's mainly for bar seating -- will remember for next time! Must get was the crispy fried fish, calamari, and truffle croquettes for us! Something about the fish in NY is just amazingggg.
